The Yellow Book Steering Group has endorsed a small number of companies who have expressed an interest in providing examined and certificated Yellow Book training courses. The endorsement means that the training provider has demonstrated a capability to deliver engineering safety management courses against a robust training curriculum and capability criteria established by the Yellow Book Steering Group. The endorsement is limited to delivery of training in the English language.

The Yellow Book training courses are designed to fulfil a standard curriculum with the objective of providing delegates with:

1. The capability to become ESM (Yellow Book) Practitioners:
   • Provide detailed knowledge of tools and techniques.
   • Provide a thorough knowledge of the ESM (Yellow Book) Fundamentals.
2. The ability to apply the ESM (Yellow Book) Fundamentals to a railway application, such as:
   • Projects (Infrastructure / Rolling Stock and Mainline or Other Guided Transport Systems).
   • Maintenance (Infrastructure / Rolling Stock and Mainline or Other Guided Transport Systems).
3. An appreciation of systems:
   • System boundaries and interfaces.
   • System safety and risk.
   • System operational states (normal, abnormal, degraded, emergency and recovery).
   • Emergent properties resulting from a system.
4. An awareness of how railway stakeholders and system actors are affected by a railway system.
   • Consider the whole life-cycle.
   • Consider human factors.

The presenters of all courses are all experienced ESM practitioners.

Any similar training courses that are marketed as Yellow Book courses by companies not listed above are not endorsed by the Yellow Book Steering Group.
