Industry groups are collections of companies and research institutions sharing a common interest in a specific industrial field or in the methods and techniques that are used in that field. They often develop and decide on best practices and promulgate standards or guidelines.

Rail Safety & Standards Board

Rail Safety & Standards Board
The Rail Safety and Standards Board has taken over from Railway Safety. Rail Safety took over many of the functions of the former Safety and Standards Directorate within Railtrack PLC, as well as an expanded role to help focus the industry on improved safety management.

Railway Safety's stated vision is "to provide leadership in the development of the long term safety strategy and policy for the UK railway industry".

Railway Industry Association

The Railway Industry Association is the Trade Association for UK-based suppliers of equipment and services to the railway industry. It has more than 100 member companies, active across the whole range of railway supply. That range is exceptionally diverse and includes many skills and resources which were previously part of the national railway undertaking but which now operate commercially in the private sector.

Association of Train Operating Companies

The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) was set up in April 1994 by Britain's 25 passenger train companies, who became our members. ATOC supports these companies and has become the trade association of the passenger rail industry.

European Workshop on Industrial Computer Systems

European Workshop on Industrial Computer Systems (EWICS) is an industry group whose mission is to "to promote the economical and efficient realisation of programmable industrial systems through education, information exchange, and the elaboration of standards and guidelines". More information on their activity as well as several guideline documents can be found on the industry group web site. EWICS has recently set up a Risk Analysis Subgroup, which aims at producing a Guideline for the performance of Risk Analyses.

ENCRESS

European Network of Clubs for REliability and Safety of Software (ENCRESS) is a "European special interest group for all who share a professional interest in the safety and reliability of software-intensive systems". It is a network of clubs, each of which organises technical meetings of its members and publish national language newsletters. In the UK, the ENCRESS national club is The Safety-Critical Systems Club, coordinated by Joan Atkinson, Secretary of the Centre for Software Reliability, University of Newcastle.

European Safety and Reliability Association

European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA) is "a non-profit international association for the advance and application of safety and reliability technology in all areas of human endeavour". MISRA

Motor Industry Software Reliability Association (MISRA) is an industry group of companies interested in producing safe and reliable software for the motor industry. The Guidelines it has produced are intended for use by all those involved in the creation, procurement and support of vehicle based software.
