The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is a registered charity (no. 210252) that strives to promote and progress civil engineering. We believe that civil engineers are "at the heart of society, delivering sustainable development through knowledge, skills and professional expertise."

IET

Institute of Engineering and Technology
In the field of safety, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) operates a Safety-Critical Systems Committee and contributes to the Safety Critical Systems Club and to the Hazards Forum. A review of the other safety-related publications of the Institution can be found on the IET web site. The IET also has a Rail Professional Network.

Institution of Railway Signal Engineers

The Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) is the professional institution for all those engaged in, or associated with, railway signalling, telecommunications and allied professions. The IRSE is active in Europe and world-wide as well as in the UK. More information on the institution can be found on its web site.

The Institute for Measurement and Control (InstMC) brings together thinkers and practitioners from the many disciplines which have a common interest in measurement and control. Its Learned Society Board has a safety panel. More information on the institution can be found on its web site.

BCS

The British Computer Society (BCS) operates a Safety-Critical Systems Task Force, which advises the Society on all matters of policy relating to the use of programmable or other complex electronic systems in safety-related applications and represent the BCS on safety-related/critical matters. It is also involved in the Safety Critical Systems Club and is a member of the Hazards Forum.

Engineering Council

The Engineering Council is the co-ordinating body behind the various professional engineering institutions.

Hazards Forum

The Hazards Forum was established by the four major engineering institutions, the Institutions of Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical Engineers. It was set up in response to major disasters, both technological and natural. It aims to improve public understanding of risk, while developing its work on the analysis of hazardous events, dissemination of lessons learned and the promotion of risk reduction strategies. On the web site you will find an electronic version of the quarterly newsletter.

Safety and Reliability Society

The Safety and Reliability Society has as its purpose to represent engineers and scientists working in the field of Safety and Reliability.

European Systems and Safety Society

The European Systems and Safety Society is an initiative to create a pan European society for systems safety.
